(ĐN)- According to the Dong Nai Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dong Nai province has exempted farmers from irrigation fees, considerably reducing production costs. In the first half of this year, local farmers enjoyed irrigation fee exemption with a total amount of around VND 6 billion. Accordingly, a large area of fallow land were put in use.

At present, there are 116 irrigation works in Dong Nai for irrigating over 23,000 hectares of farming land or only covering about 10% of cultivation area. Dong Nai’s irrigation system is operating at nearly 80 per cent of capacity.

in the 2006-2010 period, the construction of new  irrigation works in the province is still slow, accounting on nearly 50 per cent target.
